The Boathouse

The Boathouse is a single-storey villa that sits low along the water’s edge. Open-plan suites and living spaces face straight onto the water, so the house feels connected to it from every room.

The architecture is deliberately calm. A slim, flat roof floats over a rhythm of pale stone piers. Between them, full-height glazing slides away entirely. Sliding timber screens give each space flexible shade, privacy and protection from the weather, letting the façade change through the day. When the screens are open, bedrooms, terrace and pool become one continuous space. When they’re closed, the house turns into a quiet, dappled shelter from the Caribbean sun.

A long pool runs the full length of the terrace and visually merges with the water beyond. The landscape design keeps the natural ironshore edge, softened with native coastal planting that needs little water and helps the house settle into its setting. There is also a place to launch a kayak and paddle straight out from the garden.

Like all our work, The Boathouse is designed for the realities of island living. It uses durable, low-maintenance materials, a passive cooling strategy built on deep overhangs and cross-ventilation.
