Feasibility: The Birth of a project
- 27 April, 2025
The journey of bringing an idea to life is a thrilling experience, but it is often met with complex challenges and a multitude of decisions that can shape its success or failure. One of the first and most critical steps in the process of developing any project—whether it’s a new building, a business, or a high-end resort—is feasibility. Feasibility, the birth of a project serves as the foundation for everything that follows and ensures that a project has the potential to move from concept to reality.
Why do you do Feasbility as a stand-alone service?
Smart clients like to balance risk with cost, many of them come to us with some idea of what they want, with a site that they like, but can't commit to a full service offering at the first step. We understand that completely and therefore offer feasibility as a stepping stone to understanding if this project is everything they hope it can be. By the end of the feasibility stage the following questions will be answered:
What can I fit on my site?
What views am I likely to have?
How does the topography (terrain) of the site affect what I can build?
Where are my setbacks and accesses?
What is the ballpark cost to build?
Can I add to the property in the future, where can I do this?
What is the overall impression of the buildings once placed on the site?
Balancing Vision with Reality
One of the greatest challenges is balancing a grand vision with the practicalities that will bring it to life. While creativity and innovation are necessary for success, understanding the realities of feasibility ensures that these ideas can be realized sustainably and effectively.
Consider how feasibility impacts everything from the design of a building to the layout of a wellness resort. The right decisions made at this stage—whether related to site selection, materials, or financing—lay the groundwork for a project’s success.
What is completed during Feasibility?
Each project is unique, but generally for a villa project we break it down into the following steps:
- Site visit and drone imaging
- Initial outline briefing session
- 2-3 site sketch options with square footages and approximate costs and timelines
- Interim Presentation to client
- Round of revisions
- Final Clay model images and site plan
Moving Forward with Confidence
Once the feasibility study is complete and the project is deemed viable, the real work begins. At this point, the focus shifts to planning, designing, and executing the project with the knowledge that it has a solid foundation. The feasibility process has reduced the risks and uncertainties, giving the project team the confidence to move forward.
A clear, actionable plan based on the results of the feasibility study sets the project on a course toward completion, ensuring that vision and reality align every step of the way. As an architect or business owner, the importance of conducting a thorough feasibility study cannot be overstated. It is, without question, the birth of any successful project.
The time taken for a villa project will be around 3 weeks, for a resort project or commercial proposal it is significantly longer. The costs are defined dependant on size of the land and scope of the project.
